Dear People reading this,

I would like to know if adding a second router, that I will use an Ethernet cable to connect to my ps4 and PC I am building, would work with my ISP. My father says that buying a router will do nothing because the information can't be sent to the router I want to buy. He said the people at Spectrum (My ISP) wouldn't be able to send the information to the router, because it isn't hooked up. In this case, I ask you all, what could I do? Would I have to buy another internet service plan? Or could it just work using one? I am really stuck right now, I have no knowledge on routers or modems, so I don't wanna buy something that won't work. The router I want to buy: http://shop2.frys.com/product/3243611?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

A...

A router would work if configured correctly (router functions turned off to avoid double NAT), but a simple network switch would be a better choice.

So, what you're saying is if I buy a switch, hook it up to an ethernet port, it will work? Sorry for asking so many questions, I am not used to a lot of networking hardware.

We need to know what exactly you have now.
Is it a modem/router, or just a modem?
Make & model, please.

It's a Netgear N600 WNDR3400v3.

OK...with that, you do not need 'another router'.

A switch, as mentioned above, will provide extra ethernet ports.

Thanks guys, wasn't sure what to do, appreciate the help.
