My printer was 15yrs old but worked fine, now have to find a new one and have no idea where to begin, just a basic printer/scanner combo. I don't use it that often but its's something I do need to have; I mostly print in black only.

An Inkjet is fine as long as it can work with just the black cartridge installed. I am open to laser etc as well but for my usage just reliability is most important. Price isn't main issue but would prefer to stay under $150.

Funny enough, I have recently run into this two ways.

We have an older Brother printer that was on WiFi share and after an update to W11 simply will not be found on any of the W11 machines. On the converse, we had to get a new printer for the shop which still have some W10 machines which are in process of being replaced, and the new printer will not work there. I have seen this happen over time but was quite unusual the timing for pretty much both to quit working as expected at the same time, same update cycle.

The one here we had to put on USB and printer sharing which is an entire bother all it's own. I have not figured out how to get the one at the shop to work yet. I can do basic print functions but nothing advanced and no scanning even with the Windows Scan app.

edit- one would think I would just swap them around 😉 (I haven't (yet))

I had to replace my Canon Pixma MG2922 because the ink was drying out and it wasn't grabbing paper anymore, so I went to Target and purchased an Epson XP 4200 for about $60 on sale. It's wireless and also supports a wired USB connection, comes with a scanner, prints in color or black and white. I'm not sure how long it will last but gets the occasional job done.
