It turned off because of protection from a short circuit. Nothing permanent should have happened, unplugging the PC from the power socket and replugging it after a few seconds will do the job. That's also not necessary, it should work after a few mins after the incident.

What battery was it (the voltage)? a typical 1.5v battery or a battery ranging up to 5v wouldn't/shouldn't damage it. Anything above that might damage the motherboard if it doesn't have backwards current protection.

Sometimes, the PSU itself turns off momentarily after such an event, but should return to normal after a few minutes.

the pc doesn't turn on now no matter how much you wait and battery was 12v 2.5 AH

Highly likely you killed something in the motherboard. Same way some USB killer devices work, sending a high voltage spike backwards into the USB port, essentially killing the port or whatever controller in the motherboard to even the CPU. Its likely that it killed either the motherboard, but it could even be the CPU.

If its was connected to the front panel, try turning the computer on by disconnecting the USB connector from the motherboard that leads to the front panel.

sadly still motherboard is not working, the psu is fine but the motherboard seems like that it's not receiving power as motherboard light is off

motherboard is likely at fault/dead. it should at least turn on the fans though, which also makes be believe the PSU isn't supplying current after that incident. if only you have another PC to test the CPU/PSU etc.
