Hi,

I plan to buy an extra 2TB of storage but I'm confused.

My current config has a 5400 RPM 1TB WD Green drive on which my OS is installed.

I want to buy a 2TB internal drive but I don't know which one to get. Seagate or WD (Hitachi is out of the budget even if they make 2tb internal drives).

I'm thinking WD blue. And my budget is 7000 INR. For reference a 2 TB WD black drive is costing 10,000 INR.

One more thing, my PC is switched on and turned off daily (morning 8 am to next morning 12 AM). I'm worried that getting an internal under such circumstances will damage the drive. Please confirm your experiences if anyone does this.

I need something what will last for 3+ years (basically warranty should cover that, I don't 100% expect it to last 3 years).

Hi there Conrad Pinto,

In case you go with WD, I would say that WD Blue should do the job. Yet, it comes with 2 years of limited warranty. WD Black is considered to be a premium product and comes with 5 years of limited warranty but it falls in a higher price range.
Also, WD Green may not be the best pick for an OS drive due to its power efficient characteristics. So, when you get your new drive, it may be a good idea to use it as a primary one.

Regarding your second question, I would say that this shouldn't damage the drive in any way.

Are there any 2TB 7200 RPM Blue drives? Cannot find any on the site.

Yeah, WD Red is designed to be used in NAS systems and RAID environment.
WD Purple is suitable for surveillance systems.

Both drives feature IntelliPower just like WD Green. So, you will not really notice any performance difference. They will work just fine and you can use them. Though, their specific features(like NASware 3.0 in WD Reds let's say) will be of no use.
