I have a WD MyCloud NAS which has worked faithfully for me since buying it around 4 years ago. A few weeks ago, we had our broadband modem/router replaced and since then the MyCloud has been losing connectivity every few hours. During the times it is inaccessible I can still ping it ok but the web ui is unavailable and I can't connect to any of the shares in Windows 10. When I power it off/on, it works again for a few hours before doing the same thing again.

So thats the background. I am pretty sure the modem/router is to blame but I've ordered a replacement enclosure for the MyCloud hard drive to test to be sure before running to my cable provider. And this is where my question comes into it.

I took the cover off the enclosure earlier and noticed a few very small ic's on the drive controller card were extremely hot to touch. The drive sounds ok, no ticking or clicking. But I'm concerned that the controller card is reaching the end of its lifespan and I'm wondering what my options are.

The drive is a WD Red 3.0TB WD30EFRX NASware 2.0

Solution
before you replace any parts. make sure the new router has the newest firmware to rule out a bios bug. also google your issue with the router name and your nas. sometime it may be a simple setting change or software update.
