So I recently had to RMA my G.SKILL set, running at 3000MHz. They've worked fine for 2 full years, until now. My CPU is an i7-7700 (non-k). Due to this chip's memorybus being 2400MHz, i feel like that's why my modules have gone bad (but still seems unlikely). Problems started appearing after clocking my ram from 2133MHz to 3000MHz.
Is the next logical thing to do, after my RMA, to plug in fresh 3000MHz modules or to get 2400MHz DIMMs? I heard that going 3000MHz is overclocking the ram for my CPU...

Solution
Your motherboard dictates what speed your RAM can run, not the CPU. Technically 3000MHz is an overclock, but you should not have any problem running your memory at that speed. Your motherboard will support up to 3866MHz, so 3000MHz is just a mild overclock.

Thanks. I thought I ruined my RAM by overclocking it. But it's just a faulty pair then...
