I recently decided to upgrade my pc to a better one that can possibly play new games (Witcher 3 in particular) in 60 fps on Ultra. I have a relative who works in Intel and has a 50% discount on all their products, so I'll focus on buying Intel products instead of AMD.

I was thinking about buying an i7 processor (around 200 €), 16 gb of RAM (around 80€),GTX 970 and a 24'' 1080p monitor. I already have an HDD and a 240 gb SSD.

Since it's my first time building a pc, I had some questions:

1)Is it possible to get 1440p on a 24'' monitor? (I don't have room for a 27'' monitor) And if it is, is it worth it? Is the upgrade from 1080p to 1440p on a 24'' monitor really noticeable?

2)If in the future I decided to upgrade to a 27'' monitor, will I need to change any of my pc components?

3)Is a GTX 970 enough to run 1080p 60fps or should I consider a 980?

4)Should I buy an i5 instead of an i7 and get a more powerful graphic card?
Thanks!

Solution
1: It depends if the monitor actually supports 1440p, if its a 1080p monitor and you play games in 1440p on it, you wont see much difference, but if you get a monitor that supports 1440p, you will see a big change

2: You will not need to change any components.

3: a GTX 970 is perfect for 1080p, I dont even see a point in getting a 980, its like double the price of a 970, but if you wanna save like 30-50 bucks, i would recomment a Radeon r9 380x or if you wanna get a cheaper cpu and get a r9 390x

4: You should definately get an i5, and get a better gpu.

Actually, you should be able to notice the difference between 1440p and 1080p even in tablets, let alone 24". No, of course, you don't have to change any component. Actually, when running games @1440p, my favourite choice at that price point is the R9 390. Depends on what games do you play, even at 1440p some games will run around 60 fps with R9 390 while games like AC Unity will not even reach that framerate at 1080p. If I were you I wouldn't look at the 980 at all, but you can, if you want to be like, more future proof. If your intention is only gaming, then yes, i5 will give you no or very small performance disadvantage against the i7 in gaming and better GPU is a way to go.
