I/O backplate flaps

Hi, newb builder here! What do i do with the flaps on the I/O backplate? I'm trying to put my motherboard on the mounting bits and putting it next to the I/O shield but the flaps are sort of in the way. Am i meant to bend them or leave them as they are? :S

I usually just bend them inward. It gets them out of the way and you don't have any sharp edges to worry about later on.

When you say inward, do u mean so they are perpendicular to the board or so they are flat with the rest of the I/O plate?

Somewhere between that point actually. So they are sort of pointing at a 45 degree angle towards the side panel.
