So, I own a 16gb kit of hyperx fury 2400mhz ram Overclocked to 3400mhz (by default from my motherboard) and games like gta v, rust, battlefield 1 and other games are only using up to 4gb of the 16gb of memory available. Does anyone know how to fix this or do I need new ram kits?
Thanks!

No I am using 64bit windows UNLISCENCED if that changes anything??

Yes task manager. will I need to get CPU-Z for the real numbers?

Of course it is like I said before it only uses less than 4gb in game when it could use 16 which makes some games that were playable no longer playable

Try running one of said games and instead of using Task Manager or any other 3rd party program open Resource Monitor (type it in the Windows search bar) this will give you a graph that doesn't only list physical memory being used but tells you hardware reserved, cached and free memory make sure it shows the full 16GB installed and usable at the bottom.

You have 12GB of your memory cached leaving very little free this is casuing the problem you rather have a memory leak caused by an application or you haven't restarted the PC to reset the cache in a few days or so. If you have restarted since it has happened then something is causing a memory leak. Do you know id your Motherboard uses "Killer Ethernet?" This is a common cause of memory leaks i have seen it in these forums before. If yes, try updating the drivers to the newest.

My motherboard is the z270 M7 from msi. I don't think I installed most drivers because I thought because it's very new it wouldn't matter. So do I have to install motherboard drivers?

it didn't change anything. I restart my pc. I load up bf1 and the cached memory jumps straight back to 12gb and the game uses 2.5gb of it. I really don't know why this is happening

could it be coz my psu is old and slow it can't let the pc use enough ram?

No RAM uses very little power to begin with and Windows is reading the 16GB just fine. Just for some reason it is caching it all up this usually happens if an application has got a memory leak sadly i don't have a whole lot of knowledge on this issue hopefully another user can help fix this :/

ok thanks anyway!!

Actually something that came to mind was running this > https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ff700229.aspx

It should identify what exactly is using all the RAM and not letting it be allocated else where. Give it a shot and see if you can find out what it is.

just one more question though. would resetting my pc fix the problem?

By reset do you mean a fresh Windows installation or the Windows refresh tool?

Factory Reset
