I own 16gb of ram but games only use 2-4gb! Why is this happening!!!!

So, I own a 16gb kit of hyperx fury 2400mhz ram Overclocked to 3400mhz (by default from my motherboard) and games like gta v, rust, battlefield 1 and other games are only using up to 4gb of the 16gb of memory available. Does anyone know how to fix this or do I need new ram kits?

Yes you definitely should, the motherboard should have come with a drivers install disc otherwise download them from the MSI website by searching the product page for your board and go to Downloads section.

could it be coz my psu is old and slow it can't let the pc use enough ram?

No RAM uses very little power to begin with and Windows is reading the 16GB just fine. Just for some reason it is caching it all up this usually happens if an application has got a memory leak sadly i don't have a whole lot of knowledge on this issue hopefully another user can help fix this :/

just one more question though. would resetting my pc fix the problem?

By reset do you mean a fresh Windows installation or the Windows refresh tool?

It's up to you, i have no further solutions sadly. If you do reset and it fixes the issue just make sure you monitor it after you install you apps/software to make sure you don't run into again when you download stuff you currently have that could potentially be the problem.

Is the game 64 bit? If it isnt thats probably why

how do I find that out?

Is it in Program files or Program files (x86)? If it's in Program files then it's 64 bit

if origin and steam are 32 bit. does that mean the games are? because all my games are downloaded to an external hdd

Have no idea I dont use Steam. But where are the games installed?

So the games are installed on a folder with the game name? Thats it?

No, all gaming platforms are 32-Bit. I can confirm this because mine are running right now. (Steam, Origin, GOG Galaxy, UPlay, etc) and they are all 32-Bit applications but the games are not.

ok I'm resetting my pc now and saving my games of course on an external hdd

cached ram is normal ,means its availabe for instant use

Your cpu-z image shos the ram is working @ 2666mhz not 3400mhz. Any reason for the assumption that the ram is running higher?

Do i understand that your games are running of an external hdd?

Try running one of said games and instead of using Task Manager or any other 3rd party program open Resource Monitor (type it in the Windows search bar) this will give you a graph that doesn't only list physical memory being used but tells you hardware reserved, cached and free memory make sure it shows the full 16GB installed and usable at the bottom.
