I recently read that some mobo's need to have a bios update to work with a cpu. How can I tell if the b450m pro 4 is bios updated for the ryzen 3 2200g.

It will work without need for a BIOS update for that CPU.

Each mobo is only GUARANTEED to ship with the first (lowest version number) created. Visit the manufacturers website for a given board. Look at the CPU support list and notice what CPUs are supported by the lowest number/letter BIOS version (or "all")

Getting a newer BIOS on a B450 board is certainly possible, but very rarely do you have any way of knowing what version is on there until you fire it up the first time.
