I returned my 8400 today!!!!

The OP obviously doesn't have any idea what he's talking about. My Yorkfield doesn't list temperature correctly either, but you don't see me returning it. Just take the extra 2 minutes it takes to figure out the temps by extrapolating your own data.

Intel isn't going to fix the problem in the current stepping at least. They may make a work-around though.

Check AW30, page 11 of this document http://download.intel.com/design/processor/specupdt/31873303.pdf

Wow, just about all of the e8400's that I've heard of run 4ghz with voltage that is fine for air cooling 24/7. Why would you want to retun a chip like that?

Exactly my point, especially when I'm itching to get my hands on one of the E8400s.

Is it different if Intel churns out a dud chip that doesn't show the temps right??

The horde are all silent??

Can't take it on the chin??

How does this compare to Phenom??

At least AMD told us.

When your selling somethign that generates heat don't you think that temperature sensors should be reading things correctly?

I mean ... what happens when one catches fire??

I guess the company can sue Intel for the damage ... and for non-disclosure ... opens the can of worms right up.

Can't wait till that happens ...

Courts will be having a field day with a product that is sold knowingly that generates heat as part of it's normal function and the sensors don't work properly.

PC's are household appliances ... everywhere.

Doesn't sit well for "public safety".

But ... they are really fast ... I am sure that defense will work well for them too.

I expect a recall ...

Nope... but its more of software problem then hardware or actual sensors. I'd guess you really wouldn't know till you brought one.

Errr.. the only horde that is silent is in your head.

Didn't feel nuthin. 😴

Well, you decide... whopper with cheese, or BK fish with cheese.

Told you what? The end of the world is coming?

Generally they do. The accuracy will not be exact, even on a AMD chip that reading below ambient temps.

Oh please, not this excuse again.

Well, if that's true, hopefully AMD will learn from it if it doesn't happen to them first.

Why don't you buy an Intel E8400 and try to cause a fire with it, so you can sue Intel. But the only catch is, it has to be ran by the instructions provided that will not void the warranty.

And how many are AMD based? My dad's old XP Athlon can get as hot as my P4 northy.

You think that's bad? Go to Iran.

What are you smoking?

and what if there isn't?

Dude we arn't talking about the 8400GS. We are talking about the Intel E8400 CPU.Btw, the 8400GS is an OJ card for playing old games like CoD2 Halo CE. I grabbed a 8400GS for my budget build and I managed to get it to 700/450. Check my sig.

Feel left out?

😳

i think i may return all my intel chips!!! THOSE BASTAGES MAKING THE CHIP RUNNING HOT BECAUSE I OVERCLOCKED IT?!?!?! AND...sweet mother of god......The temp..might be off by +/- 5 Degrees which any one who overclocks should always add +2-5 degrees just for safety sake...oh god...hold me i feel so violated... :<

Told you what? A bug that would almost never affect general home users? Or a defect in the second core that presented a problem to users, even at stock speed? Or poor compatibility with the existing AM2 sockets?

When your selling somethign that generates heat don't you think that temperature sensors should be reading things correctly?

I mean ... what happens when one catches fire??

I guess the company can sue Intel for the damage ... and for non-disclosure ... opens the can of worms right up.

Sony, HP, Dell all manufacture batteries, which also generate heat, and have much higher explosive potential than a microprocessor.

Maybe you should also sue these companies for not providing a thermal sensor in the battery, and for its danger of exploding in the public (which had happened before).

Saying it will catch on fire is simply being poorly educated to say the least. The structure of microprocessor, and the components its made of, almost render it un-flammable. Internal circuitry would gave out, and melt, way before it reaches flammable temperature.

Please, don't be the 2nd MrsBytch.

Eternal also had to post to inform us and uncover the evil schemes that Intel embarks upon.

"Damn Intel for selling defective chips to their customers and trying to pretend there is nothing wrong. Money, Money, Money!!! is all they care about. Dont buy the 8400 wait for the Next stepping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

I do very much agree with that. I learned an important lesson today. Sometimes sticking our nose into other people's lives doesn't have the positive outcomes that we think...especially when it is a problem related to poverty. Fixing one problem on the surface will just lead to another if the true issue is not attended to. See this thread was useful after all :ange:

Time in...back to the flaming!!!! :fou:

lol, I was being sarcastic. :na:

Reynold your and Idiot if you think Intel has not tested these processors. They even have the information about the DTS in their Technical release notes. They are covered if someone tries to sue them. Anyway the processor won't catch fire. The system will shutdown if the processor reaches its thermal limit. That does not mean that the motherboard can't catch fire. I have seen that but it was the boards Vreg that went up. Put the processor in another motherboard and up it came.

I bought a 6750 on sale at Frys today and just got the same Gigabyte ga -p35 S3G that I had my 8400 in. The temps are perfect on this chip idels around 21. I returned my asus am2+ board and now Im gonna selll my 6400+ so if anybody wants to buy it really cheap pm me. Runs a little faster than my 6400+ plus its 65w which is what I was looking for.

For the record the E8400 made me a fanboy. i oced this cpu out of the box to 3.6 with stock HS and temps stay under 45C.

Not too shabby i mite say

Your ambient temps are really low or your temps are 15C higher than reported.

Maybe he is using a refrigerant cooling system to get it below ambient temperature?
