Many 24 pin cables are actually 20 pin plus 4 if you have an aftermarket PSU. The extra 4 wires go on one end of the 20 pin connector. Usually they must either be attached to the coonector by some tabs, or plugged in first so the 20 pin holds it. Be sure the 4 pin is turned the right way if it has one. Usually there are Plastic pins, or tabs that hold it to the other connector. Make sure the cable is all the way in. If you can pull it back out without releasing the latch then it wasn't in all the way.
