I wouldnt call it useless...at 3Ghz with more than one thread support, its not the worst case.

Guessing that your budget isnt infinite grab an r 290x...if your PSU can handle it.

I would not say worthless either. It is not the best but I still think going from a 57xx to say a 7850/7870 would give him a good graphics boost if the PSU can handle it. And remember that you can carry the GPU foreword when/if you upgrade the rest of your system.

There is always birthdays and such you could get other parts to build up the rest of the rig.
