I want to upgrade my PC

I currently want to upgrade a computer to be able to play demanding games like GTA V and OVERWATCH.

My current specs:

HP Pavilion 500-070
Joshua-H61-uATX
Intel i3-3240 3.4GHz
1 PCI Express x16 (2.0)
8GB Memory
Internal 300W (100v-240v) Power Supply

What I want to upgrade:

Processor
Graphics Card (CPU)

Processor: Intel i5 (has to be an Ivy Bridge Quad Core, preferably 3xxx)

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960

Is there anything specific I need/ need to do?

the i5 3470 or i5 3570

are the best choices on that mobo if you want an i5, they are simple drop in just make sure your motherboard bios is up to date


if you want a gtx 960 you will need to also upgrade your power supply

300w is not enough and is most likely poor quality as most pre-built systems really drop the ball here


you want a 450w or better unit with at least a 6-pin pcie cable


be aware some gtx 960's need an 8-pin pcie cable so if you want such a card you will need to make doubly sure that the power supply has at least a 6+2 pcie cable
