My motherboard has an LGA 775 socket and a Q35 chipset model... Do you know which CPU I should buy? I want to upgrade from this Core 2 Duo 6550

What is the exact model of your motherboard? The manufacturer almost certainly has a full CPU support list you can look at.

That motherboard chipset is compatible with any processor up untill c2q q9650 but compatibility still might depend on motherboard brand unless you have a dell or hp prebuilt pc in which case your motherboard would probably be an OEM and then I would not suggest buying a new processor as an upgrade to that almost never works.
