I was wondering if this is a solid first build.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tZbmvn

On top of the build I bought a commander pro and the lighting node pro for fan control and extra rgb. I also plan on buying another set of 16gb of RAM, and upgrading to 6 ll120 from corsair in the near future. The 500gb m.2 drive is going to be my boot drive only (nothing else at all). Would this be overkill for a boot drive? The 1tb SSD will be for games and everything else. Any ideas on if this is would have trouble running Rust, Fortnite, and OverWatch?

Thanks in advance!

If I put them on an SSD though, wont they load up faster, and also download faster too. And is a 500GB Samsun 970 EVO m.2 overkill for a boot drive only?

Your all down voting my answer when all i said was go for win 10 pro its better for gaming at this time i didn't know he had already bought win 10 home further more the ram capacity and the ability to pause updates is the main reason i would put win 10 pro over home on a gaming pc since windows updates have been know to cause problems with some hardware and gaming. so you can pick and choose hence why most pre built gaming pc's come with pro not home, further more if in the future he wishes to do something other then gaming on this build pro would beneficial to that.

Windows 10 home is perfectly fine for him. A. Home and Pro support hardware far and beyond anything a consumer would use. B. All the extra pro features only come in handy if you are a computer consultant, (very rarely) power user, or for lots of RDP use.

Yeah windows updates have caused SOME issues with computers. However, I've been using windows 10 since it came out, not once have I ever had to disable windows updates because of a driver failure. And I've worked on at least 40 computers running windows 10 over the past year or two because I am a computer consultant.

Typically windows updates only causes issues if you are working with really old software or are a software developer.

FYI, As said above I am a computer consultant, and I use NONE of the pro features over home. I could easily switch to a home version of windows and not have to change a thing.

True but everybody is pounding on me for something i said if i had known he already had bought windows 10 home i wouldn't of said anything the build is fine the way it is.I mentioned windows 10 pro been better because it has benefits over home true most people wont use them but if it was me and i was spending that much money on a system i would go with pro. i use pro and have used home aswell.

Where are you getting this information from? It's quite the opposite - most vendors charge extra if you want Pro.

Is a 500Gb Samsung 970 evo M.2 overkill for a boot drive? (I will only be putting my OS and OS updates on this)
No games or anything because I am getting a 1Tb Samsung 860 evo SSD for that.

Not really an expert on M.2 but 250GB would probably be sufficient for a boot drive

I've heard that a 120Gb M.2 fills up after a year of updates from windows, that is why I think I want a 500Gb M.2 so I don't need to buy another one. Also is there any way to delete old update files after new ones have come out for windows, or do I need to save every update file even if it is really old.

Some will boot a bit faster but downloading is based on your internet, I think your thinking of install speed which can go a bit faster but programs such as Steam allow you to game while downloading games so there's really no reason to want fast installed when you get a few games onto the system. 500gb alone is too much just for the OS but you will want to put a few games that load slowly onto it.

here is a link about getting rid of old files for windows old folders etc
https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-delete-the-windows-old-folder-from-windows-10/

Your ssd will more then likely come with software to maintain it and optimize itself so you can use that Samsung magician is what have for my ssd
As for the size of boot drive you want its up to you a 250Gb/500Gb will work either way

I'm still going to go with the 1Tb SSD just because they are faster in some aspects. But should I downsize to a 250GB M.2 to save a few bucks. (The 250Gb and 500Gb are a 50$ difference)

well what wildcard is true,if your going to put a 1tb ssd in your system then that is enough for games etc so going for a 250gb boot drive would make more sense.

Not a valid comparison either. It may be fine now but it will be deactivated at some point. A lot of those keys are acquired from Enterprise and University versions where they generate thousands of keys that often go unused and if they are sold like this, Microsoft will deactivate them if found out. You can't buy a $130 product for $30 and expect that it's going to work properly. And if they sell insurance on top of that (like most of these sites do), that alone makes it suspect.

Yes, Windows Home is perfectly fine.
There is ZERO performance difference.
