I3-2100 vs i3-2130

Hi people i would like to know which i3 processor is better i3-2100 (retails@155) or i3-2130 (retails@195)?

Is the 300ghz difference worth the 40 dollars? Also, i am intending to use the on-board graphics so is the i3-2130 a better choice in this case? I will be using it for work,surfing,video and light gaming. 😱

An i5-2320 in my country will set me back by $80.
I don't do hardcore gaming so i see no point in quad cores.
Is 300ghz really a big difference?

Can u tell us what kind of work? because there is a big difference between I3 (2cores/4threads) and I5 (4cores/4threads), if u only need it for surfing and movies an I3 - 2100 would be your best choice.

Work is just mainly office documents,adobe reader. By the way if i want to use this CPU for 3 years, is the i3-2100 still a better choice or i3-2130? Will the 0.3 Ghz be of much performance issue?

I wouldn't buy anything more than the 2100, the 300mhz is largely irrelevent and not worth the extra you pay.

I have a few builds and am using a 2100 for my work/office machine, it is more than enough. The I5 2300/2310/2320 are to close to enthusiast level i5 prices, essentially a waste of money.

You probably want to consider the Core i3 CPU models ending with the number 5 if you want to rely on the integrated graphics core. Basically there are two different graphics cores, the Intel HD 2000 and the Intel HD 3000. Only the "higher end" CPUs have the faster Intel HD 3000 graphics core. That includes the Core i5-2500k, Core i7-2600k and all Core i3 CPU models ending with the number 5.

The Core i3-2100 comes with the Intel HD 2000 core while the Core i3-2105 comes with the Intel HD 3000 core. The CPUs both run at the same speed though.

The Intel HD 3000 graphics core is marginally more powerful than the desktop Radeon HD 5450 graphics card. That puts it at 2x (or more) powerful than Intel's old GMA 4500 graphics core which is really bad for games. The Intel HD 2000 graphics core is probably about 50% more powerful than the GMA 4500 at best.

The OP didn't clarify if he already has a GPU or intends on running a integrated system. If the OP has a GPU of ability then a 2100 is more than sufficient for the above usage. If he wants to run an integrated system then he will need a H61,H67 or Z68 motherboard.
