i3-3210 to i5-3570: Worth it?

Hi everyone,

My brother's desktop pc has a i3-3210 and is there any major gains for gaming by upgrading it to i5-3570? from what i know it'd add a couple of fps only. is it worthy?

He can grab a deal from a friend and get a used i5-3570 for 50 bucks. used is fine?

Other specs are -

Asus p8b75-v
Asus geforce gtx 660
Samsung evo 850 evo 250gb
Kingston 8GB DDR3
Samsung 19" LED 1366x768

Yes it is worth it. Those 3rd gen i3s aren't as strong as the newer i3s.

Its a good perfomance boost,gaming perfomance would be 30-40% higher given that the i5 has superior single threaded and multithreaded perfomance due to much higher clocks(3.2 ghz vs 3,8 turbo) and also 2 core vs 4 cores.The i5 is just as good as any modern low clocked i5(4440-4460-6400-6500)

Really? Good to know! I didn't think it will boost up that much unless for in synthetic benchmarks. so the hyperthreading i3 had and lack in i5 doesn't make much of a difference?

The i3 is a dual core with hyperthreading that allows it to somewhat ACT like a quad core. The i5 really is a quad core so not having hyperthreading doesn't hurt anything.


As mentioned above, the i5's cores are much stronger too.

Great! in that case, will the gtx 660 bottleneck the i5 though?
