Hi everyone, as the title says it all, my i3 touches 75 c while gaming (though only exceeds by 1 or 2 degrees more depending on title), should i get an aftermarket cooler or stock one is okay...(btw how is deepcool gammaxx 300)....(i didn't have time to go thru previous threads as i am in a hurry, i'm worried i might damage my cpu so i'm looking for a quick advise) (my proc idles around 40-50c and while gaming hovers around 75c)...thnx again!

Solution
the cpu will protect itself from high temps, but long peroids at high temps isnt good in the long term. What case do you have? will help for aftermarket cooler recommendations, and also, maybe free up some space with cable management or adding case fans. Or re apply the stock cooler with new thermal paste.

What is your ambient room temp as 40-50c seems a little high for idle temps. that deepcool should be fine, but in the price range of that cooler, look at the cooler master hyper 212 evo or plus, or enermax ets t40. I recommend an aftermarket cooler whether or not temps are an issue as it most likely will later down the road and most likely will get noisy with the stock cooler. Thats just me though

Thnx for the quick reply! my ambient room temp is around 30-35c...my case is pretty clean, no cable mess or dust or anything like that....i tried adding a front 120mm intake fan but that didn't help at all so i removed it as only added to the noise...and for the af coolers options available to me deepcool one is the only one i can afford right now, hyper 212x is way too costly here almost double the price of deepcool one....i actually read a lot of good reviews on newegg, ebay and amazon so i thought about giving it a try...
i am using a cm elite 311 btw

Well i can only think that your cpu heatsink is not properly installed. The intel stock fan/heatsinks sometimes if you are not carefull they wont stick well down to the cpu. Are you really sure the techs or you installed it properly? I strongly suggest that you check it out with the manual about the intel heatsink 4 knobs or what they are called and how to properly squueze and turn them towards the motherboard .
If this is done ok, with a good thermal paste on the cpu, and still you get 75c (for i3 thats , i think high) then sure go get a better heatsink of 20-30euro is enough

i checked the push pins...they seemed okay...btw my pc is about 2yrs old...and it only got hotter & noisier since last year..maybe stock cooler is giving up..i usually play bfbc2 mp on it and sometimes i keep playing for more than 10-12hrs or so..though temps stabilizes at around 75 c and never exceeds so i'm guessing it might be working at it's full capacity all the time and bearing might have worn out or something....still want some expert opinion...

yeah it could be thermal paste too... since everyone is already suggesting to go for af cooler, i'll buy it asap...btw would i be okay with the paste that comes preapplied on deepcool one or should i buy some other paste ?
