[SOLVED] i3-4130 but what gpu? Is it worth it?

So I recently picked up this:

HP Pavilion 500-223w

And I'm curious which graphics card I should put into it. I mostly play games on Xbox One but my old desktop finally got bad enough it was hard to search the web and a friend had this sitting in a closet. I've blown out all the dust, updated everything I could on it and added an additional 4 gb ram. I would like to make use of Xbox Game Pass and possibly play some of those titles on PC. Having the 300w PSU I know limits me on graphics cards and I know bottlenecking is a possibility for newer cards. I'm planning on building a pc eventually but waiting for current events to ease. That being said I don't want to spend a bunch of money upgrading this one, I understand this isn't going to run AAA games 1080 with high fps. I just want something better than integrated.

So would a GTX 1050 ti be the best card I could use according to the PSU?

Would it be even worth it spending the money on a 1050 ti on this PC or should I save for the next build and buy a cheaper card for this?

If buy a cheaper card what would you suggest?

This desktop will be given to my kids to play games on whenever I build my next one. Games they play are Roblox, Minecraft, Sims, Fortnight, etc. As for games I'm going to play if I cant play them on this PC I can play them on Xbox until I do my next build. Mostly this pc will be used for google, youtube, etc. and the games the kids play.



It has Windows 10
NO overclocking
Located in the U.S.

GTX 1650 is the best possible GPU you can put in there without replacing the PSU.

But those games are pretty easy to run. Other card you could get: 1050 TI (like you mentioned), 1050, RX 460. Of you wanted to go even lower end, but still able to play those games you could get: GT 1030, r9 350, r7 250.

All of these will not require a power supply upgrade. I would recommend upgrading to a 4th gen i5 or something later, as the i3 is only a dual core. But it can definitely still play the games you listed.
Edit: here’s YouTube video I found of a guy putting 2 of the listed low end GPUs in an optiplex with an i5-2400, which should perform similarly to you’re i3.

Fortnite is the most demanding game out of all those to run. Keep in mind this video is filming the game at low settings.

Thanks for quick reply. I looked at the 1650 but wasnt sure how far i wanted to push the stock PSU. I'll check those other cards out you mentioned. Whatever I put in there will probably stay, which means higher costs prolong my build longer so I'm trying to weigh my options.

1650 sucks as much power as a 1050 TI. If you really don’t want to use 75w on your graphics card, then get a GT 1030.

I'm gonna watch the video you posted now and research the 1030. If I can get a cheaper card for the kids to play their games on than a 1050 ti I'm all for that lol. Saves me some money for the next rig

Just to update I started searching for a lower gpu this morning and someone had just posted an msi 1050 ti 4gt oc on FB market for $90. I couldn't pass it up lol.
