I'm using an ASUS H81m-plus motherboard I'm in the process of upgrading several parts. Namely the ram, gpu and cpu. I've bought most of the parts 2nd hand - the gpu is a refurbished model (I'm waiting on my new monitor to arrive to test it). However, when I installed the i5 4690k it would not POST. There were no beeps indicating something was wrong, there was just a black screen. I read online that I may need a more up to date version of my BIOS as the version was 2001 - the newest version available was 2205. I then updated the BIOS with no issues but the same thing happened again, no POST, no beeps or anything when trying the new processor. Switching back to the old i3, everything works fine.

I then found online that perhaps I needed to clear the CMOS so I did so following instructions on ASUS' support site. This yielded the same results as before. I contacted the seller and he basically instructed me to do the things I had already done.

So, what else can I do to try to get this CPU to work? Should I wait for my monitor to arrive to test it with my new GPU? Would that even make any difference? Is the CPU just broken?

Thank you in advance :)

(Edit: current specs - i3-4330, 8gb ram, gtx 650. soon to be specs: i5-4690k, 16gb ram, gtx 1060)

Thanks for the quick response :)
All of my close friends are on the same motherboard generation so I could test on their boards (exact same CPU in fact). I'd be very confused if it were to work on their motherboards but not mine.

No problem, glad to help. Just be careful during the process not to bend the CPU pins on their sockets 😀

Will test out the CPU sometime this weekend - will keep you posted :)
