Hello everyone, I bought a new motherboard and processor today and installed it. I played one game of CS:GO and encountered 100% CPU Usage and sometimes 20-30% just being idle on desktop. This can't be normal, any ideas? My new parts are worse than my older ones right now!
( Gigabyte GA-P55 USB3 + Intel Core i3 540 3.07ghz )

Case: Antec 900
Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 750Ti OC
PSU: Antec VP-450 450W
Motherboard: Gigabyte B85M-DS3H-A
Processor: Intel Core i3 4360 3.70 ghz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB 2x4gb

CS:GO heavily depends on the CPU, the Core i3 isn't that powerful. Though I find it quite weird that you use 100% of the CPU power. Try to check if any programs are running in the background. And check your temps, I recommend using HW Monitor: http://filehippo.com/download_hwmonitor/ to check the temps.

And please post a list of your old parts.

What do you expect... its dual core.

CSGO recommends quad core CPU clocked at 3.0GHZ+.

Your CPU is pretty weak for gaming, its more of an office CPU and for very old games back when we used dual core. It should be okay for games that rely heavily on GPU more than CPU but remember the CPU is keeping track of a lot of things and doing stuff in the background that the OS requires it to do.

My old parts were Gigabyte GA-P55 USB3 + Intel Core i3 540 3.07ghz , so my new parts should do better because I wasn't having issues playing CSGO w/ my old parts.

No odd services running in the background/using memory.

It seems my CPU's two cores are floating around 50 right now....Google Chrome open

I was using a i3 540 before and it was working just fine w/ dual cores.

Chrome does use a lot of CPU power. The problem for me seems to be the CPU, open the bios to see if it's properly recognized. Though the i3 is weak it should be able to run CS:GO just fine, I ran CS:Go with 100+ FPS on a Core2Duo E8400 @ 3.0Ghz... Wich is a much weaker cpu than your's. If it's properly recognized maybe the cpu is damaged or broken, but first list me your temps when playing CS:GO.

Hi, when you changed your motherboard did you do a clean install of windows? I am using an 4160 and have no problems with CS:GO.

Taken from numerous sources for CS:GO recommended specs:

CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 processor or better

You don't need four physical cores to run this game decently. The usual check list of things like drivers, virus software and other background apps should be looked into first.

I'm not really techy, but I'll go check out bios to try and notice something odd.

temps were 47-58 in menu and deathmatch

Yes sir, I did.

I updated drivers for my CPU already though, anything I may have missed?

Seems recognized in bios, temp was 47

I am sorry to tell you that there is no problem with your CPU, it's just how it is.

Well the thing is I have tried a few CPU and sometimes the usage on the CPU will be like 50-80 and still cause frames to drop like back when I had an FM2 CPU and I was dipping down to 30FPS even with very decent r9 270 card then I used an i5 and I was straight up to 60fps but then bigger games came out so I got a GTX 970 and so I went again back to 60fps. Then witcher 3 came out and this time my CPU was the bottleneck as it was getting 80% usage and drops to 45fps with the GPU at 60-80% usage. I then switched to an i7 4790K and I have no CPU issues at all, clean 60fps throughout witcher 3.

Weird, I have maxed out Witcher 3 on my Core i5 6400 and I get long over 60 FPS with 65-70% CPU Usage

Well every CPU is different, maybe I just got a slightly weaker one, it was probably a faulty i7 with a few things turned off inside (can not remember what that process in manufacturing is called).

But ye i'm not really bothered now as I sold it to a guy using Gum-Tree for £80 and he's happy with it. I have my i7 and my GTX 970 then 16GB of RAM playing witcher 3 so i'm happy.

Haswell and Skylake work differently, your i5 has better architecture.

Depressing, I just woke up and booted to around 30 Celsius and a couple min later it hit a max of 62.....

What's more likely, faulty processor, rip off processor, or is it because I'm using a stock CPU cooler?

Well it should not be going above 40C while idle. Have you installed the CPU cooler properly??

Take off the cooler, turn the arrows on the pin things on the coolers edges so they point inwards then pull them up and to unlock the cooler and take it off.
Wipe the cooler and CPU with a bit of cleaning spirit then wipe dry
Put a pea dot of thermal paste on the cooler
Turn the arrow of the black cooler pins so they face away from the cooler for installing.
Rest the cooler on the CPU and get the pins into the motherboard holes
Press down the black bits doing either corner at time until you see the black bit pop out of the cooler pins under the board.

With a stock cooler you should being getting 30C idle and 50-60C load (I got these temp in England)
I have a Cooler Master TX3 EVO and with my old i5 4460 I got 30C idle and 40C load while with my new i7 4790K I get 30C load and 50-60C load which is understandable due to its voltage, 8 threads and 4.0GHZ clock frequency (boost 4.4GHZ)

yes, nice and snug. Haven't changed the thermal paste though, will try that tmr

Quick update, I disabled Windows Update through services and it brought me to 0% CPU usage idle and 30 Celsius from a constant 0-100% CPU usage(LOL) and 40-65 Celcius

Just in case someone stumbled upon this thread for help, just search services through windows and look for Windows Update>Right click>Properties> change automatic to disabled and stop running option right under the drop down box. Hf and thanks for the attempts forumers
