I'm building a gaming rig and i need a budget core. Apparently they can both get to 4GHz but im not sure wich one for gaming
I have a i3 6100 overclocked to 4.6GHz and it's great for gaming. My rig's being used for The Witcher 3 on max settings and some SteamVR games.
Both chips will show up as 4 logical processors in Windows due to Hyperthreading on the i3 and 4 cores on i5. You too can have a Nuclear Submarine with either choice. My OC benchmark for reference.
I´d personally not go for a dual core anymore, but I don´t know your exact requirements, your budget and what games you want to play (CS:Go? Minecraft? Warhammer? Solitair?^^).
This might fit the bill: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y3kd6X. I increased the cpu to the 6500 to give you better clock speeds which should benefit you in the more demanding titles. Comparison: http://ark.intel.com/compare/90729,88185,88184
You could also wait for the 480 which is speculated to be around $200 which is not much more than the R9 380, but will supposedly be a far better performer.
