i3 6100 vs 8320

I'm building a new gaming rig and was wondering if I should buy an fx 8320 or a lower end i3. Would it be more practical to buy the i3 and upgrade to an i5 in around 12-18 months from now?

Note: The build will be in the corsair air 240, which is an matx case.

For purely gaming, the Skylake i3 will be much better. For encoding/decoding, the 8 cores will have some advantage. Get an Asrock board with "Sky OC" and the i3 will really shine.
