Hello guys, hope you all are doing well;

I currently have an i5-3570 and have the budget to either go for an i3-9100f or i7-4790. Please advice me on what processor to buy and why, I only need it for gaming purposes and nothing else. Secondly, I don't care if the 9th gen is more future proof as I just want performance right now. I am aware of the socket differences and motherboard requirement for both the mentioned processors. To make it even more clearer, I want to go for the processor which will give me higher FPS in CSGO. (Please don't say that the i5-3570 is enough for it, I want to upgrade regardless)
Thanks in advance!

Solution
If the doubt is between these two, take the I3-9100F without hesitation.

It is a slightly more powerful and much more new model.
The price of the i7-4790 is indecent for what it gives and, in addition, you will need change your motherboard anyway. There are very few new haswell motherboards available. I do not recommend in any case that you buy a second hand that will be 5 or 6 years old.

With the current price of DDR4 memory it pays off in all cases.

I will go for i7-4790. i3-9100f just a little bit faster, but it will cost more for another new component like DDR4 RAM.

Why not considering the i7-3770 ? they are cheaper and perform almost like the 4790. and also work in your old Mboard.

i did consider the 3770, but right now I have the money so I was thinking to just go for a higher generation and not risk it.

Solution
I’m still running a pair of i7-4790k’s in 1U racks using ASRock Rack H97’s.
The ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 boards were spares. Never used one of them so it’s still boxed up.
If you want it for peanuts let me know.
Im upgrading to AMD Cezzane and another 1U with Tiger Lake desktop so this Z97 has no use. My 2 x i7 4790k’s will be spares.

Basically used 4790k’s since 2014. I bought 4 of everything back then and still haven’t upgraded to Windows 10.
I like being behind the times. I use pro audio rigs so if something works with my DSP racks I don’t try Anything else as my drivers are very finnicky.
