So I recently built my pc with an i3 6100 and all of my friends laugh at me for having i3. Is an i3 really bad? (I have a gtx 950)

Solution
The i3's in the past typically performed fairly well for games for their budget. When skylake introduced the i3 6100 I think it's doing better by comparison to the skylake i5/i7 than i3's have in the past. Unless a game is heavily threaded and cpu bound most games do quite well with an i3.

Here's a quick comparison of an i3 6100te oc'd up to about the same speed as a standard 6100 vs an i5 6600 at stock over a range of games. It doesn't cover all games or all scenarios but for specific games there are comparative benchmarks out there. If you scroll down you'll see comparisons for total war, gtaV, shadow of mordor, alien isolation and grid autosport.

With a gtx 950, it was probably the best option. What games/applications are you running? Unless you're running apps and games that can utilize 4 cores, the i3 is a great choice.
