Im going to buy a hd 7770..which cpu shud i buy if i plan to game latest games...shud i consider pentium over i3 as its overclockable or fx ..ive a tight budget

Solution
The logic is still the same after so many years.
If you want to have a budget system, AMD is the solution.
Getting an FX6300 or FX4100 for example is the better choice than i3.

I would not buy HD7770 these days anymore.
I would prefer getting at least R7 260x but preferably minimum R9 270x.
I would recommend an AMD FX series CPU if u wanna overclock. I have an AMD FX-4100 @3.6 Ghz paired with a Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 270X 2gb GDDR5 along with 8 gigs of ram it can play almost any latest game at 1920x1080p Ultra/Maxed out even Watchdogs and assassins creed unity runs totally maxed out with very playable fps.

Solution
FX 6300 will be better than the i3, except older games and a few newer ones. In recent times the FX has been pulling ahead of the i3 in games that use the threads.

In stuff like video editing, it's no contest, the AMD is better. I wouldn't recommend a Pentium unless you only want to run older games and emulators.

Cautionary note: if you get an AMD system, buy a motherboard with heatsinks on the VRMs and at least 4+1 or 4+2 phase power (for mATX there is only one Gigabyte board that has them).

Depending on which games you want to play, the 7770 might not fit the bill. Try to aim for a 7850 at least, preferably a R9 270/270X or GTX 960.

The 7770 is without a doubt out of date like everyone else said. I would advise against it, like other said get a R7 260x (AMD) or a GTX 750 ti (Nvidia) as the minimum.

For the processor its a little more debatable. Its true that the G3258 is unlocked but its still a dual core with no hyper threading, you have to overclock it just so that it reaches similar performance to the i3, but will probably still be worst. Not to mention you will still have to buy a decent cpu cooler to overclock it to respectable levels, so thats at least another 35 bucks or so, so at that point might as well get the i3 or the fx 6300 (probably best FX around the similar price point).

Now for the i3 vs the FX series, its a little more debatable, for stuff like video editing and stuff that uses more core the FX will win. But for gaming its not as clear cut. But in general games that dont use alot of cores the i3 will win, but for games that can utilize all the cores in the FX series the FX will win, it really depends on the game. But if you get the i3 you have upgrade options to the i5 or the i7 in the future.

There are actually some benchmarks you can look at.

Shadow of Mordor - Surprisingly the CPU had little impact on performance, its more GPU intensive.

Far Cry 4 - Multicore cpu wins and the FX series is ahead of the i3, but still behind i5 and i7

Pls tell me fast as im getting msi gtx 750ti 2gd5 for rs 10.4k instead of 12-14k...which cpu shud i pair with it of price 4-6k and pls recoomend me mobo cpu list

Tell your budget for Motherboard and CPU combined

Pick up the one that fits your budget:

AMD based PC:

AMD 3.5 AM3+ FX 6-Core Edition FX-6300 (FD6300WMHKBOX) Processor Rs. 7950
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Motherboard Rs. 4689
Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU Coolers (RR-212X-20PM-R1) Rs. 2890

Total - Rs. 15529

Intel based PC:

Intel 3.4 GHz LGA 1150 i3 4130 Processor Rs. 7725
Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H Motherboard Rs. 5878

Total - Rs. 13603

Sorry i chose the solution by mistake ..pls keep answering...my budget is 14-17k fof mobk cpu cooler....im thinkin for hyper 212x fx 6300/6100 and asus m5a97 r2

Alright, here is your final config:

Since you've extended the budget to Rs. 17000, I would say that Asus board you've picked a great one.

AMD based PC:

AMD 3.5 AM3+ FX 6-Core Edition FX-6300 (FD6300WMHKBOX) Processor Rs. 7950
Asus M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard Rs. 6683
Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU Coolers (RR-212X-20PM-R1) Rs. 2890

Total - Rs. 17523

Intel based PC: [Recommended]

Intel i5-4440 Processor (3.1 GHz, 6 MB Cache, Socket LGA 1150) Rs. 12200
Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H Motherboard Rs. 5878

Total - Rs. 18078

I would honestly suggest you to take the Intel config with i5. It costs only Rs. 500 more and would absolutely crush the FX 6300 in gaming. And also don't need third-party cooler, will work fine with the default cooler that comes with it.

Even though FX 6300 has 6 processing cores, those are weaker ones when you compare it to the Intel i5 4440's 4 stronger cores. Hence it beats the FX 6300 fair and square.

Modern games like GTA V, Battlefield 4, including the upcoming games The Witcher 3, No Man's Sky, Star Citizen etc will do far better and give you smoother game play experience if paired with right GPU.

You can check this fact with anyone. Given the close pricing and unmatched performance of i5 4440 over FX 6300, it is the wiser to buy the Intel PC.

I've laid down the facts. At the end of the day, you're the one going to buy. So take a decision.

Cheers!

Well im not gonna upgrade thus pc...after 2yrs will build a new one..btw which wud prmerform better stock i5 4440 or OCed fx6300..note that ill buy new after 2 years so will the i5 be good over tht fx for 2yrs at stock?

Definitely i5. Like I said oc FX 6300 can only compete with i3s not the i5.

Also note this:
i5 Base Clock - 3.1GHz
i5 Max Turbo Clock - 3.3GHz

Meaning, whenever there is a need for more performance, the i5 will automatically boost itself from base clock 3.1GHz to 3.3 GHz max turbo clock through Intel's Turbo Boost Technology.

Have fun!

Sigh, If you had read my comment and understood properly, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I never said how many cores. I just gave him a general idea of what turbo boost will do. By the way, most of the games are single-threaded. Even if more multi-threaded games come in future, the i5 will do fine. Because it has 4 stronger cores.

Let me tell you what is "wrong"?
I quote you, "I dont think the poster would interpret what you have written that way."

Assuming that all the other persons will interpret the same way as you do is wrong or rather utter rubbish. The way you interpreted what I wrote was your own problem not mine.

Since you seem to be more knowledgeable about CPUs, I suggest that you focus on using that knowledge to offer something useful to that person rather than making silly arguments and interpretations. Remember this is a tech forum, if you had forgotten.

Good share. Cheers!
