i3 vs i5

Hi guys, gonna need some help of urs to decide..

I can get:
I3 6100 for 122€
I5 6400 for 186€
I5 6500 for 205€

I'm in a budget, so the more money I spend on the cpu, the less money I'll spend in aftermarket cooling/modding/gpu/ram.

I want to game on this pc, but not heavily.. 1080p fifa 16/cs:go/league of legends/gta V and some of the newer games like just cause 3/dishonored 2/cod bops3/bf4.


What cpu should I get? Best price/performance? Should I really wait on my money and not get the i3 and wait till I have the money to buy an i5? Is it worth it?

Well one thing to take note of, is that i3's only have 2 cores while i5s have 4 cores. That's a big difference if you wanna play GTA V. It's not much of a price difference for a way better experience.

I5 6500 and use the std cooler! It is worth it in the long run.

It's the difference between getting an r9 380 4g or an gtx 950 2g without aftermarket cpu cooler..

It depends which gpu you decide to get. For a gtx 960/280 or worse, I would go with i3. If your getting a gtx 970/390 or better, get i5.

2.7GHz versus 3.2GHz! almost 20% difference.

Unless you plan to do BCLK overclocking, the stock HSF will be perfectly fine if installed correctly on the first try, no need to waste money you say you don't have on aftermarket HSF.

I would go with the i5-6500 mainly because it has 500MHz higher (18.5%) base clock than the i5-6400 for only 10% extra cost.

The maximum boost frequency will only be seen under light single-threaded loads while the higher baseline frequency is applicable even under torture testing across all cores.
