Hi guys, my computer is getting old, and to be honest, i don't want to taint the upcoming games (FC4,GTA V etc) with this piece of junk. It's loud, hot and becoming slow as hell. But it's gonna have to do.. Because i don't have $1800 to dish out atm. So like i said, my un-overclocked system living in Australia is hitting 84C just on a game like Saints Row IV (Medium settings) which is hardly a graphically intense game. The guy i bought it from (Prebuilt, first serious computer) says there's nothing wrong, and apparently has re-done the thermal paste and says everything is fine. I have no after market additions if that makes sense, everything is stock, is there anyway to fix this? I cant play in 40 degree heat with a 84C computer right next to my legs making me hotter. Money is a problem here, as i'm trying to save for a new computer.

Solution
Wht's your spec? What is hitting 84degreesC? That's way too hot for your non-OCed CPU, but possibly acceptable for your GPU... Is the system crashing or is it stable?

I'd hazard a guess that some additional case fans and possibly a better CPU cooler could make a big difference... You should actually be able to overclock that CPU up to a point and it still run cool with the right cooler

Age should not be the issue - what you have, though not current, is still respectable enough and will at least play the latest games. Have a look down this list:

Your GPU isn't actually too far down it

for the gpu 84c is normal, as for the cpu its a bit on the hot side, as long as it doesn't go into 90's its fine, only way to improve things is to spend money improving case airflow and buying better cooler for cpu

Hi there thank you for your reply, my specs are
i5-2500k 3.30 ghz (Non overclocked)
GTX 570 4gb vram
16GB Ram

I don't know heaps about overclocking as this was my first computer and haven't felt brave enough to touch inside of it (apart from cleaning of course, which i do every 4-6 months)
Also its the CPU hitting that. At the moment its at 10% load and its min temp as been 64,59,60,59

How much would an air conditioning unit cost? The main problem here is ambient air temparature rather than the hardware.

With that said, there are things you can do to reduce noise, some heat and boost performance back to near top of the range:

A large aftermarket cpu cooler will definately help with the noise from the stock intel cooler and allow you to overclock that beasty processor by at least a third, making it competitive with the best you can get. Only problem is more heat.

Upgrading from the hot and noisy 570 to an aftermarket 970 will also greatly reduce noise and heat.

just go and get a hyper 212 evo for $20 bucks and be good for another 2 years.

I run an i5 2500k with a good overclock and I have ran 2x 7950's CF and am now running a gtx 970.

I play on a 1440p monitor with 60 fps on everything.

my temps are less than 60C on the CPU and about the same for the GPU.

you do not need a new computer at all. all you need is a cheap CPU coller like the one I mentioned and a new GPU when you can afford it.

I only pay board (like rent but i don't have my name on the lease) there is an air conditioner in the living room, however the cool air never reaches to my bedroom where my computer is. Even if it did I'm not allowed to touch the air-conditioner as i don't pay for electricity.

I'm going to take a look at where the noise is coming from today, because i can even hear it through my headphones which is quite annoying.

Would getting a new case be a good idea also? The Storm Stryker looks like a very nice case that has alot of airflow but i'm no expert.

Just looked at my mobo, its an Asus P8P67, dunno if thats good or not.
Also, you guys are saying i don't need a new comp, but my pc cant handle newer games like Watch_Dogs (stuttering at higher details) and GTA IV ENB (had to put on medium settings) Middle-Earth the new game however i could get some high, some medium settings so dunno heh.. But i'd like to experience GTA V on High! which i don't think my current pc can do.

Just did a test on Shadow of Mordor
CPU: 69-73C, 73 being the MAX it hit
GPU: 76C
That was about 4 minutes of playing, killing a few orcs etc.
Heres the settings of the game

I feel like this game was very well optimized.

lol what lack of gddr are you talking about, that card has gddr5 only slower speed than the new series almost all mid to high end gpu's have gddr memory since geforce fx 5800

It depends which actual GTX 570 card he has - some come with 1.5GB (or it might be 1.25GB, can't remember), some with twice that

he will need at least the 2560 GDDR of the higher end gtx 570 if he does not want to in his OP "i don't want to taint the upcoming games (FC4,GTA V etc) with this piece of junk". I am pretty sure these will all be pushing that 3 GDDR threshold. A gtx 680 2 gigs is the rec for far cry 4 which is three tiers above his current card.

even a 7970 GHz Ed, R9 280X would be a three tier jump on toms hierarchy chart and put him in position to greatly increase his gaming performance. this would also meet the requirements for current gen games and recently to be released games.

DXDIAG says Total Memory: 4096 i dunno what that means though, is GDDR the same as VRAM?

it was a great card in its time.

a new GPU will make you fall in love with your computer all over again.

then maybe even overclock that CPU someday once you get an aftermarket cooler.

well maybe you can sell yours on ebay or craiglist looks like $50+ is reasonable

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=GeForce+GTX570+1280MB+Gigabyte&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

then get a used msi twin frzr 7950 for $100 (I rec MSI as they honor the 3 year warranty even if it is used, no receipt or registration needed)

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=GeForce+GTX570+1280MB+Gigabyte&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1311.R3.TR4.TRC1.A0.H0.Xmsi+twin&_nkw=msi+twin+frozr+7950&_sacat=0

these links all have the recently sold postings.

If you look on the back of the stickers on the MSI i think there is a letter sb like 5 digits in and then 4 after there are four numbers that stand for month and year

http://us.msi.com/page/warranty#w-vga

the above link shows how to read it.

you may be like $40 from getting a 3GDDR card that will work for all new games with a solid overclock which is virtually guanteed with the twin frzr (I have owned five of these)

no need for a motherboard unless you want to overclock and really you will not need to, there is about 15-20% possible overclock there if ever wanted.

as far as a case goes I like my CM haf 912. it is cheap, easily fits anything inside it, good cable management and can be found for $50.

here are a couple more good cheap cases

the hyper 212 is a great CPU cooler for your CPU

I run a i5 2500k and it has never bottlenecked any GPU, not even close. I was running two 7950's in CF and I am now running a gtx 970 and around xmas I will SLI them.

your computer is still a very good one all you really need is an updated GPU.
