Hi guys, my computer is getting old, and to be honest, i don't want to taint the upcoming games (FC4,GTA V etc) with this piece of junk. It's loud, hot and becoming slow as hell. But it's gonna have to do.. Because i don't have $1800 to dish out atm. So like i said, my un-overclocked system living in Australia is hitting 84C just on a game like Saints Row IV (Medium settings) which is hardly a graphically intense game. The guy i bought it from (Prebuilt, first serious computer) says there's nothing wrong, and apparently has re-done the thermal paste and says everything is fine. I have no after market additions if that makes sense, everything is stock, is there anyway to fix this? I cant play in 40 degree heat with a 84C computer right next to my legs making me hotter. Money is a problem here, as i'm trying to save for a new computer.

Solution
Wht's your spec? What is hitting 84degreesC? That's way too hot for your non-OCed CPU, but possibly acceptable for your GPU... Is the system crashing or is it stable?

I'd hazard a guess that some additional case fans and possibly a better CPU cooler could make a big difference... You should actually be able to overclock that CPU up to a point and it still run cool with the right cooler

Age should not be the issue - what you have, though not current, is still respectable enough and will at least play the latest games. Have a look down this list:

Your GPU isn't actually too far down it

Thanks for all these replies fkr, learning alot. Would 750watt be enough to power the new gpu and this cpu cooler?

i have the i5-2500k and nvidia gtx 650ti ssc, your temps are way to high period.. my recommendation, take the cpu cooler off and clean the cpu face and the heatsink, get a brush and clean those fins and hoover all the dust out, re apply thermal paste and reseat your cooler.. with your graphics card, clean the fins and get all the dust out..

is your cooler the stock cooler.. for 30bucks you can get an after market cooler which will help enormously with temps..

Today i got my air compressor and cleaned the whole computer, gpu fans, psu, cpu fans with a paintbrush, however its still idling at 55ish degrees, my cpu fan is quite loud so ill be getting a new one asap, however, i have no experience taking apart a PC, let alone my own, which if i do something wrong, could break it all. Today i was re-attaching my single case fan i have, its a 3 pin fan and the motherboard has 4pin, however, i couldn't get it on, those pins are so fragile, i'm sure if bent it just by putting the fan back on.

Current temps browsing the internet and having Steam open
GPU: 41-43C
CPU: 50-53C

Alright, will be able to get these few things around Christmas with the money i'm saving

EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 (hopefully no coil whine, alot of people seem to be having it)
Hyper EVO 212 CPU Cooler
Corsair Air 540

Splendid
nice case choice and here is a nice review of it. spoiler alert, it got a silver award

nice and cool a little loud.

the most important thing about playing around in your computer.

1. always unplug it from the wall

2. always always touch a metal part of the case of the computer before touching anything else. the only thing you can really do wrong is to discharge static electricity onto a component.

2a. you can buy for $5 a anti-static wrist band that you attach to the case and this will help. I never use one I do not trust them i just always keep a forearm or something touching the case.

3. generally speaking never force anything into place. It usually means something is wrong. if you look at that 3 pin connector it has a slide and you must mach that up to the motherboard. If you get stuck or frustrated just walk away and find a youtube video of somebody else doing it first. it is like free experience.

4. never work on a computer while intoxicated unless you are a professional.

while i agree with everything, point 4. made me lol, i usually work on my pc when im baked out of my mind, last time i was redoing my water cooling when i was sober forgot to clean the block before refilling them and almost spilled much of my cooling fluid on my pc because i forgot to properly close my reservoir, it never ever happened when i was baked since then i try ot to work on my when sober, otherwise i might forget something again...:D
