i5 3570 or i7 2600 60fps modern games

Hello! I’m on a very tight budget and currently have a i5 2400. Both CPUs are available to me for be same price. I’ve read a lot of threads on here comparing the 2 processors but they are either dated or not specific as to the target frame rate.

The title says it all. I have a feeling games are moving towards more cores/threads over core power and if the i7 2600 can maintain 60fps generally and play games like bf1 and the upcoming version, vermintide 2, ffxv, metro 3 etc then perfect. Or am I wrong and generally would the stronger cores on the i5 give a better 60fps performance?

If anyone has experience with both or either please let me know. I have researched but first hand up to date experience is key to me. Stock and overclocked performance is also important in case the custom Dell heat sink can’t handle a lot of heat.

The rest of the build is:
1x8gb DDR3 1600mhz
600w PSU
An old office Dell mobo (I will update when I’m home)
GTX 1080ti (seriously, and I can’t sell it to balance the build so please do not focus on this)
1080p 60hz monitor
Thank you in advance

Update: question changed as it was kindly pointed out the mobo won’t overclock

None of them are worth spending money on. The increase is too small and you'd still run into the same issues. Sandy needs to be oced to overcome it's age. Some people will claim stock sandy or even westmere is still more than capable of modern gaming, but having it, I would so no it's not because of those drops. It maybe not an issue or noticeable to some but it is to me and plenty of others. Oc or upgrade platform is the sandy options.

Try throttle stop to oc. It works on some oem mobos and someone mentioned it works on sandy but I have yet to see desktop proof.
If you can find a i7 3770 that would be a good option as well since getting a K chip is somewhat pointless since I highly doubt the Dell motherboard allows for overclocking.

But to answer your original question i believe the i53570k has slighty better single core performance over the 2600k, so for the time being it would probably perform slightly better in gaming.

Maybe I can be more specific as to what performance I’d be after. It’s more the dips in frame rate or freeze/stuttering I’m keen to avoid. More solid gameplay is ideal. For example in PUBG on the 2400 is surprisingly playable but drops badly in frames every now and again. Is this due to lack of threads or the lack of power in the cores? Thank you for the answers so far
