i5 3rd gen vs i7 2nd gen cpu

Is i5 3rd gen cpu better than i7 2nd gen cpu ? (i5 3470 and i7 2400). Both PC`s have gtx 1050ti but, I am asking just for cpu˙s.

the real question is, what motherboard are you going to use either those cpus?

No. The i7 is a 4 core 8 thread CPU. The i5 is just a 4 core 4 thread CPU. So in terms of raw power the i7 is superior. Plus you have to understand that year to year improvements in CPUs are minor save for when they add additional cores to the CPU package like they did with the Ryzen/Coffee Lake generation.

Are you looking to buy one of these used systems?
If so, what are the rest of the specs?

In isolation, the i7 is probably better. But things are never 'in isolation'.

The newer i5 system brought with it things like USB 3.0 support. So unless you need or want that, I'd go with the i7 even though it's older.
