i5 4440 and r7 260x VS i3 4130 and r9 270x

A better GPU is more beneficial than a better CPU, in most cases.

Based on toms data...as long as you get a new i3 you won't bottleneck your GPU. So, a 270x will beat the 260x in settings and fps. Go that route.

Ok nice, but the mobo which I am looking at hasn't got HDMI but the gpu has and the monitor too... so will I have any problems if I put a hdmi cable?

You'll be fine as long as the 270x has a HDMI connection. Just plug the cable into there.

Okay thanks for your help, didn't know that 😉 ... the mobo has 5.1 audio but I don't think there is much difference between this and 7.1
