So for some reason my i5-4440 integrated solution (HD 4600) is not detected. I have a gtx 970 so it's never really been a problem but I would like to extend my desktop to a second monitor for productivity purposes and don't have an adapter lying around for my 970 which has 3x mini dp and 1 mini HDMI. just wondering why my system isn't detecting the integrated gpu.

Solution
Your motherboard will disable the onboard graphics when it detects a GPU in a PCIe slot. If you go into your BIOS, some motherboards have a setting which allows you to change this behaviour and use just the onboard GPU (effectively disabling your 970), or enabling both at the same time (which is what you want). Unfortunately that setting isn't always there though, so you'll have to have a look. The setting you're looking for is sometimes called VGA PEG, or similar, and should allow you to toggle through PCIe (default), onboard, or both.

Thanks for the quick reply that's exactly the info I was looking for, after digging around in the BIOS it doesn't look like It's an option guess I'm off to pick up a mini DP to HDMI adapter, again.

That's a shame, ah well. It's probably a cleaner solution in the long term anyway, just one graphics card with one set of drivers to keep updated.
