i5 4460 upgrade to i7 4790

hai, i wanna ask a question. i know the 9th gen are coming very soon, but i have an i5 4460. The prices of upgrading a full system is very expensive in where i live (Asia). i wanna ask is it worth it to upgrade from an i5 4460 to a i7 4790 ? or should i go with an i7 4790k ? i have an h87 motherboard with 8gb of ddr3 ram and a gtx 1060 6gb

i5-4460 to i7-4790 is a pretty big step up and should be good for another year or two. but i7-4790s aren't cheap.

you can buy a used G4600 + B250 + 8GB DDR4-2666 for a little less than price of a used i7-4790

For H87 and H97, stick with I7 4790.

Moving to I7 4790 or 4770 or E3-1230V3 or E31231V3 is also not a bad idea, if you can get a reasonable price. Pay attention to the price!
If you have to pay more than USD150, I would rather jump directly to Ryzen 5 2600 (with new mobo and RAM) and sell things you do not need/want anymore e.g. your current I5, RAM kit and mobo.

Get whichever one of these (4790 or K, 4770, E3-1230 V3, E3-1231 V3) you can afford. Any of them is a good upgrade. Though the 4790K can't be overclocked on your board its stock speed is still considerably higher than the others.

A lot depends on WHY you need the upgrade. In some uses, having the extra threads is enough, it'll make you happy. In other cases you might find performance with an i7 47xx is still too slow.
