i5 4460 vs i5 6400 for gaming?

There are 2 cpus, i5-4460 and i5-6400.
The 6400 is only 2.7 ghz while the 4460 is at 3.2 ghz, faster, by 500mhz.
Both processors are in the same price, so which one should i choose for 1080p gaming, next to a 3gb gtx 1060?

Performance would be nearly identical. The 4460's turbo speed is 3.4ghz and the 6400's turbo speed is 3.3ghz. If you're building new, go with the newer 6400 + DDR4 RAM.

Yes buy is has turbo and can run up to 3.3ghz. See post above.

It's not bad what with the Turbo. That having been said, the i5 6500 is usually only a little more expensive and clocks at 3.2 base 3.6 Turbo.

Edit: 3.2 base and 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 Turbo 1, 2, 3, 4 core. Brain cramp there.

Yes the 6500 is a better buy and it turbos up to 3.6ghz.

base clock does matter since it's not an unlocked processor but performance won't have much impact for gaming purposes, probably will notice the 6400 shine when you encode.

The above comments are accurate in that you're really looking at DDR3 vs DDR4 - look at part pricing and if you can make the wiggle room to get the 6400 or to step up to a 6500 then I would go with the current gen proc or wait for the 7000 series if you aren't in a rush.

Turbo works automatically as needed as long as your temps are fine. Temps are rarely an issue with Intel.

It's better than the 4460 if for nothing else than getting the newer platform.
