So i ordered a mobo that fits my cpu, and i want to get 16gb ram for it, in quad channel. Would it work? It says on the intel page, Max of memory channels : 2. So my question is will i be able to do quad channel? Thanks!

Solution

"16gb of quad channel RAM" is exactly what he asked

"i want to get 16gb ram for it, in quad channel"

he might have not understood what that means

but that is specifically what he asked

dual channel, two 8gb sticks

So i cant do quad channel then?

no

Yes 4 sticks of RAM will work with your CPU. See I too was confused by the quad and dual thing. On Intel's website http://ark.intel.com/products/80810/Intel-Core-i5-4690-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz it says dual channel. But that is only the memory type. You get dual channel and quad channel that as far as I know is only compatible with Very high end stuff or server class. So you can use all 4 slots of ram as long as the memory type is Dual. It would have been stupid to put 4 slots on if you could only use 2.

Hope it helps!

yup you can use all four slots, that has nothing to do with what he asked though

the ram will only run in dual channel mode, regardless

He asked if he could use all 4 slots. "...in quad channel." as opposed to 16gb of quad channel RAM.
Of course I don't mean to offend you, it is just what I think.

Solution

I meant to use it in all of the four slots

then all you need to do is buy two kits of 4gb x 2 dual channel ram kits

its not as good as dual 8gb sticks though
