i5 4590 upgrade or move to AMD?

My I5 4590 its nearing the end of its usefullness (regularly hitting 100% in recent games) I'm considering whether its worth going for an i7 on an 1150 socket or jumping to AMD and trying a Ryzen - assuming I can run DDR3 on a Ryzen board. At the moment I can't justify a new board CPU and upgrading to DDR4 RAM. Any reccomendations?

You can not run DDR3 with Ryzen. If that is a requirement, then you can't upgrade.

aaah good to know, will stick to the intel route, any reccomendations of a worthwhle update on same 1150 socket?

The 4xxx CPUs are the last Intel CPUs to support DDR3 also. You pretty much have maxed out. You could get an i7-4xxx but that is about all.

The i7 4xxx won't benefit you much at all.
Either be happy with what you have, as it's very close to being the best or go the AMD Ryzen route, just because its better value than any Intel system out there and more future proof than any Intel as well.

yeah looks like biting the bullet, going ryzen 5 2600 new mobo and RAM is the way to go, lucking I think theres a bit of life left in my GTX 1060 yet to do the upgrades justice.
