Hello,

I'm building a new pc and I am thinking of using it for a bit of rendering and editing in the future. Will I see a big difference between these 2 CPUs? Will the i5 4690 will be a lot faster than the 4590? The differnce in my country is 17€.

Solution

Definitely! Price-performance wise it will get the job done for your needs. There is only a very slight difference in...
Just to answer your question. For 17 euros, not much difference.

But my recommendation, since you will be rendering and editing, is to go with a 4-core with Hyper-Threading Technology (making the 4 core perform on 8 threads). All i5's do not have HTT, so that's the disadvantage and I feel you won't get your money's worth. Get the i7, or if you are on a very tight budget, the Xeon.

Additional info: you also want to have your RAM as 16GB (2x8GB) for your work.

basically, all of this

I won't be doing a lot of it and I can't afford an i7. Will a Xeon E3-1220 V3 be able to game and edit a lot better?

It is not my priority for now. For now it is a lot of programming and gaming on my free time. I'm thinkin of making videos when I have a lot of free time. Maybe I will go with the 4590 since there is not much difference between this and the 4690.

a 4590 is plenty fast enough for rendering for most people.

then get the 4590.

Great! Thanks!

If the 4460 is way cheaper than the 4590 and 4690, I recommend to save money and get that instead (since you mentioned that gaming and editing is not really your priority).

I'll be just fine with that then!

It is about 25€ cheaper. Do you think it would be better to pick that one?

Definitely! Price-performance wise it will get the job done for your needs. There is only a very slight difference in core clock speed and you won't be using that difference for the priorities that you listed (that is, programming and casual gaming/editing).

Solution

Ok thanks a lot! Maybe i'll do that...unfortunately I picked another best solution too early and I don't know if I can change it. The best solution is definately yours. Thanks again!

you had a button on the best solution post saying " Unselect current solution" in gray ^^

if you don't have that option, i think you need to achieve a minimum number of posts or have to be registred for a certain period.

can't really remember ^^

Nope I don't have that option

Thanks for the answer change @blasc!

Yup, it has something to do with receiving a certain number of correct answers in the forum (I think if I'm not mistaken it's 5 best answers?).
