New to PC gaming and need feedback on my first build.

Part list
CPU: Intel core i5 6400
GPU: 7870 LE XT MYST edition (older GPU) (through someone I know price: 40-70)
RAM: G Skill Ripjaws X series (2×4 gb) DDR3 240 pin
Motherboard: ASRock B150 PRO4/D3
Power supply: EVGA 500w (Bronze Certified)
Storage: Western Digital WD Green 1TB

Build would be mainly for gaming, I don't plan on streaming or recording game play.  I hope to play games at medium-high settings. Considering the socket type (LGA1151) you have fairly limited options for motherboards, especially with DDR3 RAM. Will this motherboard keep up with my build? Or should I downgrade to the i5-4590? (For the LGA 1150 Socket). If so what motherboard to go with it?Budget Range around $500 not including peripherals.
Thanks!!

Solution
Skylake's main performance advantage comes from using DDR4, and there are some cheap-ish options out there for DDR4 now that it's become more mainstream.

I'd recommend going for the WD Blue over the Green, and switching the PSU for a 520/550W Seasonic/XFX.

^ Pretty much answers it. The 4590 is a bit faster than the 6400, is that difference noticeable in games though... probably not. Doesn't sound like you're going to upgrading the CPU for a while since your next upgrade choice on the PC will probably be a better GPU, so don't let the "get skylake to future proof your rig" nonsense influence your decision.
