My Ibuypower Revolt that I purchased about two years ago has had issues for about 6 months in. Games would always freeze, black screen, sometimes crash my whole PC, and often gave me the nvidia driver crash.
All of this time I thought it was my graphics card (because of the nvidia display driver crashes). Just a few days ago cleaned out my nvidis drivers and did a fresh install of the latest one. Things were good, but then boom, a crash. This time though, no display driver error.
I proceed to download CPUID to test my temps. Low and behold they were in the high 80's. I threw open the program onto my second monitor, launched CSGO, and 3 min into playing I had reached 97 C. And then boom, it froze and I had to ctrl alt del and tab back in. Then it froze again after another 20 sec of playing. So I opened up my PC for the first time ever... at the link you can see the photos.
That is my i5 4670 with the stock intel cooler. I removed the cooler and removed some dust from it, and promptly put it back in place. After plugging my PC back in after I looked at it, I launched CPUID before any other program. My temps were at 40 C. I figured "good I must have fixed it" so I tuned in to IEM Oakland on twitch. After about 10 min of watching I check my temps and they are pushing 100 C!!!! What is wrong with my CPU Cooler? Do I need new thermal paste? Could that be what Is and has been causing my games to crash? I'm honestly too afraid to use my PC with those temps so I am sitting here typing on my iPhone... please help!
