I5 4670k vs FX 8350 ??

I am making my first build

I have to say this, here we go 😛

Anyhow,

i5 Pros: Gaming, and single threaded applications, power consumption
8350 Pros:Gaming(not as good as i5 but not far behind, maybe a few fps), rendering/editing

Don't get me wrong the 8350 is ok in single threaded applications and most likely will not lag but intel is faster in that respect, also don't believe what people say about spending loads on power consumption because of the 8350. It's more but not enough to make you spend more than £20 a year if bills are you concern. Also for a gaming rig the gpu will be consuming much more power 😛

+1 The 8350 is also a bit better at heavily threaded apps...(though there aren't many out there for average consumers)

Well what price can you get the i5 for? In Canada the i5 4670k is priced insanely, at $240! The fx is priced at $180 or so. If that's the case for you too then FX, otherwise I think its more a personal choice, the FX performs on par with Intel in most new games and will in the future with games using more multithreading. Is go FX, but its really a personal decision. You will save money going FX, probably at least $40 which could even get you a new GPU(more important).

True, it is, however it's cost is much higher right now, therefore I would go with IB or FX right now.

true the cost is different, but he didn't ask about cost. People say IB is a dead upgrade path, but if you had a 4670k that socket would likely be dead also by the time you needed to upgrade again. AMD's current socket is also a dead end I believe for the next gen, which is fair enough that socket had a good run so I don't think it matters in that regard. So in the end, the 8350 is slightly cheaper and slightly worse for gaming but better for well threaded apps. If it were me building a gaming rig I would only chose the 8350 if I were upgrading and already had a suitable motherboard, but for a new build I think the intel is worth the extra for gaming.

Funny thing about that. I didn't know Haswell can't overclock. I guess CPU-Z showing my i7-4770K at 4.8GHz must be a solid lie. Interesting enough as well, it undervolting to 0.678v @ 800MHz when not under heavy use must in reality be using more power. RealTemp GT, HWMonitor, and AIDA64 must also be broken to show me maxing at 74C under full load @ 4.8GHz/1.247vcore, and idling at low to mid 20's.

Intel is also joking around with everyone when they talk about Broadwell, Haswell's die shrink, going to socket 1150.

THOSE JOKESTERS....

Your name is fitting. You really are a noob. Stop spreading misinformation and let those with actual experience with Haswell speak on how it performs.

You can post little reviews all you want, the fact is Haswell outperforms both the FX's, and Ivy Bridge, even if you get an "average" everyday chip that thermally peaks around 4.3-4.5GHz.

To the OP:
If you have it available within your budget, the i5-4670K or i7-4770K is going to net you the best overall performance, especially in gaming. Best of luck.

Thank you I have decided to go for the intel i5 4670k :)

I can provide links all day long. you should consider yourself lucky.

your sample size of 1 must be representative of the entire haswell line. All other information is just lies because your 1 chip runs better than even all other reviews that hit 4.8ghz at 80-90+ degrees.

$300 water cooling, 80+ unstable @4.8 ghz.

4.6Ghz @96c ...

I guess in all your excitement, you missed the fact that broadwell is BGA. Sure, Intel stated they will introduce cpus for 1150 in 2014... but guess what ... its not broadwell.

Leaked-Intel-Roadmap-Says-Broadwell-Is-Delayed-to-2015.jpg

Because individual reviewers' 1 CPU samples are indicative of all is Haswel too, right?
lol :) 10,000 consumer CPU's to reviewers one leads me to believe there are plenty out there having excellent results. Let us not think of when IB came out, how is was supposed to be a "disaster" because of no solder.....lol

So now Broadwell being BGA-only is official as announced by Intel, right? No. Haswel dropped 6 days ago, looking SPECIFICALLY for Broadwell NOW when its not even on Intels 2014 map AT ALL is kind of, moronic, wouldn't you say?

But lookie there, support for 1150 updates already on their map. Yay. "Dead socket" at 6 days old. You're a funny one :)

If youyou're always going to be holding out for the Next-Generation processor that's 2 years away (especially 6 days after a new release) then you're not going to get anywhere. Sorry, noob..

I'm in the uk and there is a 30 pound difference in the two CPUs but the amd mobo is 20-30 more so they cancel out in the end

Hmm that's weird, usually amd MBs are cheaper too

+1

I know but the price is sort of similar and the fx is getting old now plus the features on z87 mobos are a lot better than the am3 chipsets
Plus as ths CPU is going to last me at least 2-3 years I might as well pay more in the short term

I was actually in the exact same situation as op, except I was also considering the 3570k. I went with the fx 8350 because i multitasked more than i gamed and it let me get a gtx 660 instead of a gtx 650 ti boost

But if I was to get the fx it doesn't give me enough money saved on the CPU for the gpu to upgrade from a 7950 so I might as well get the intel theni can upgrade my gpu in the futur when it's needed as the 7950 can cope with everything to date with ease

In your position I would have gotten the 3570k then, I still can't justify the price of haswell and z87 mobos. Haswell (with cpu and mobo) costs about $50 more than ivy.

EDIT: what do you do other than gaming? to be more precise, give a worst case scenario of how much multitasking you'd like to be able to do.

Probably playing a game whilst surfing the web and using Skype plus fraps
