I bought the locked version of the 4690 and I'm planning on buying GeForce gtx 960. I was wondering if I could still play most games without overclocking? and some say that the 970 is better fit with this cpu but I don't want to spend more money that's okay right?

Solution

You don't necessarily have to overclock the GPU or the CPU. You should be fine with the 960 and...
A lot of people believe that overclocking their PC will allow them to get much better framerate in games. While not completely false, the change you get from overclocking your PC is minimal or none at all. Usually games run better with overclocked Graphics cards, not overclocked CPUs.

In other words, yes you will be able to play most games without overclocking your CPU.

The 970 is certainly a step up from the 960 which is worth mentioning. I have the same CPU with a GTX 770. I am able to play most games with it too.

so I'm okay getting the 960 that is overclockable and still overclock it without overclocking the CPU?

You don't necessarily have to overclock the GPU or the CPU. You should be fine with the 960 and i5-4690. I recommend looking up benchmarks of games you plan on playing running on that video card before buying it. Good luck!
