Present System config

Dual core processor motherboard
4GB RAM 1033hz RAM
AMD 1GB 6850 GPU
Seagate HDD
Corsair 700w PSU

Planning to buy new processor, in very strict budget, I would like to get decent ~60FPS + in all high settings NOT ultra. I have no intention to OC, would like to buy an Intel processor and mobo, that can achieve that without any further upgrades. Will i5-4690 processor cut it? or Do i have to get i7-4790?:??:

Please suggest decent motherboard that will yield full potential of the processor. Mobo budget 100 dollars, not more than that.🙁

Thank you people..:)

I own a i7-4790k processor. I've had so many issues with it that I can never recommend it to anyone. 😀
And I'm sure the i5 you're looking at will cut it. You're not going to see a major impact on FPS with the i7. Your graphics card, on the other hand, definitely needs upgrading if you want to run BF4 at 60FPS... I'd recommend a GTX970, since it's priced quite reasonably and you will have more than enough performance for BF4. You may even run it on Ultra.

You can look at any motherboards that support the LGA1550 socket. If you want, look more closely here (this is for the i5 but many should be compatible with the i7 as well): http://processormatch.intel.com/MotherBoards/CompatibleBoards?componentName=I5-4690

No money to buy new GPU mate🙁. Ram is okay, that can be upgraded.

In this case, I'd suggest you upgrade your GPU before your processor :)

Thank you for the reply. Pentium dual core processor and motherboard. It is ancient, PCI e 1.0 version. 😀

How high is the fps now with the 6850 on high settings?

You probably won´t get more then 50fps in average at high settings and full hd with a new CPU

If you now play at 20fps, then it will boost your PC and you can wait a bit to buy a new graphics card.
With your current cpu, you shouldn´t get a new gpu, it won´t boost it as much.

The game works, but FPS is below 5. Processor is severe bottleneck, I have Intel pentiuam dual core, which is ancient by gaming standards. I know AMD 6850 is now old too, I will upgrade it later. Right now, I want processor that will run games for next 2-3 years. Intel 7 4790 looks like a good candidate for that. Any ideas on decent motherboard? These three cheap, below 80 dollars. If you have some idea about better motherboard than these 3 below let me know or else let me know the best among 3.

Thanks for your help. :)

Intel DB85FL
Asus B85M-G
Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H

I7 only for games is unnecessary and won´t improve performance that much for the price. Get an i5, 100bucks cheaper for nearly the same gaming performance. Intel Core i5-4590 will do all gaming you want.

Gigabyte GA-H97M-HD3
Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H

If you really want a CPU with hyperthreading for editing videos or render stuff: Intel Xeon E3-1241 V3

The gigabyte b85m-d3h is by far the best b85 board there is. No other competes with all it's features.

As for the cpu, to notice a difference between the I5 and the I7, you would need at least two gtx 980's. And even then it won't be more than 1-2 fps, out of 150+.

I thought hyperthreading will be future proof for new games, looks like that isn't the case. No rendering and videoediting, i don't even use photoshop. Just gaming and surfing, so i shall go with I5 and the suggested gigabyte motherboard.
