i5 4690 vs i7 3770 vs xeon 1230v3

will be used for gaming and after effects, I have the availability to purchase the 3770 and the 4690 for the same price, and I will have a gtx 970

I would get the Xeon. The extra logical cores will help much when recording games in high quality.

Xeon. Workstation apps love more threads and it's basically a cheaper alternative to a i7.

The xeon mentioned is an i7 4770 with no igp, in some* gaming scenarios the i5s clock speed may* give a little* more fps but overall in applications (esp multi threaded ones) and going into the future with games on dx12 etc the haswell xeon with more cache and ht is a much better buy over the other 2 imo.
