Hi there,

Having checked the System folder in Windows 8.1 it states that my new i5-4690k processor is running at 3.5GHz, which my bios (Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 motherboard) also backs up.

However, I've read that the i5-4690k processor has Turbo Boost, pushing the speed to 3.9GHz. Nowhere, except for in Gigabyte's Easy Tune utility (it says the default is 1 core - 3.9GHz) is showing this though.

Not being clued up on hardware, does anyone know where I would start to look for reasons why I'm not seeing 3.9GHz? It would be a nice little performance boost for free after all.

Thanks.

Solution
The CPU will auto boost to 3.9 when the extra performance is needed. To see if its active look in BIOS and make sure that Intel Turbo Boost is active/on.

I managed to find Turbo Boost in the BIOS and it consisted of a drop-down menu that read, Auto, Enabled, Disabled.

It was defaulted to Auto: Turbo Boost will operate at stock settings.

I changed it to Enabled: Turbo Boost will operate at stock settings, except when the base clock frequency is altered.

Hope changing it to Enabled was correct? I've not changed any base frequencies or anything as it's brand new and I don't know anything about that. My system still shows 3.5GHz as the speed, but I guess like you said, it changes when needed.

Thanks.

If you disable it, it will stay @3.5, Auto is the stock settings but I'm not sure the difference between Auto/Enable, sounds the same to me.
