i5-4690k multiplier set to x44, refuses to go above x38

Hey, what's going on here? I'm overclocking my CPU and running into strange issues constantly.
Screenshot of my CPU-Z below, where you'll see that it's refusing to go over x38 despite having MORE than enough voltage.

Pair of questions come to mind, what motherboard? And you are saving the BIOS before you exit correct?

Z97-a / USB 3.1, being lazy & using AI suite 3. Should I dump it & just OC in the bios instead?

Yes... Why would you come here before you try the non lazy approach?

You're right, sorry. Didn't realize how bad software OC is compared to BIOS OC until very recently. Got a seemingly stable OC of 4.4ghz with 1.250v. Thanks for the pointer.
