i am planning on building my first computer but i need help on choosing which cpu i should buy.
The i5 4690k is 300 dollars and the i5 6600k is 350. is it worth paying 50 more dollars or should i just go with the i5 4690k?
Pros: Better iGPU performance, 5-10% performance increase over the 4690K (which imho is not worth the extra cost for DDR4)
Cons: Higher cost for DDR4 Ram, Higher TDP

I'd say i7 4790K.
i5 4690K + Z97 + DDR3 is cheaper than $50 relative i5 6600K + Z170 + DDR4.
Should be at least.
For the same price you're more likely comparing i7 4790K + Z97 + DDR3 vs i5 6600K + Z170 + DDR4.
Then again if you want to save money the 4690K and maybe the 6600K is better than the 4790K, or as good + more modern platform.
with the older 1150 pin mb there only two brodwell cpu that dropped before intel killed off the older mb. if your going to keep the gaming pc for a few years your better off holding off till skylake stocking level comes up and the cpu prices drop. then pick up the newer cpu and newer nvidia or amd gpu that are dropping soon. with the newer skylake mb there going to be one or two more cpu for the 1151 mb over the next few years.
