Hello all. I am fairly new when it comes to Intel builds. I recently just built my fiance a computer for gaming and have a question about two specific parts already up and running in her computer.

Specs:

MOBO: ASUS H170 Pro Gaming
CPU: i5 6600k
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070
16gb DDR4
250 850 Evo.

Now I didn't know that the "k" series processors were unlocked for overclocking, which we do not intend to overclock anything, at the time of the purchase and it is too late to return the products as the computer is already built and up and running. My question is, is there any harm in running the i5 6600k with an H170 chip set?

Also, I ran Prime 95 on her computer and could only get the Core temps to 61C and overall cpu temp of 62C. Is this temp healthy? I know for AMD they don't like anything over 60C.

Thanks!

There are no problems with combining K series CPUs with H170 or otherwise boards, you just can't overclock them, which should be fine since you're running it at stock speeds.
The T4 is a solid choice for your build, as it isn't too expensive and...
No , what do you mean by harm?
even when you overclock thanks to the Asus H170 pro DRAM overcurrent protection and Digi+ VRM and other protection futures it's more reliable than ever.
so no i don't think you would face any problems.

This motherboard will be fine, as Z170 motherboards are the overclocking ones, while the H170 chipset features essentially all the same specs as Z170 motherboards without the overclocking features.
Those CPU temps are very healthy, I would only be concerned if the CPU is hitting over 80c, at which point you should ramp up your AIO performance level or fan curve on your CPU cooler or take a break for 15 minutes.
Considering you're not overclocking however, you should be perfectly fine in this regard.
May I ask what cooler you're using out of interest?

I am using the Cool Master Hyper T4 with Artic Silver 5 🙂. This one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103182&cm_re=hyper_t4-_-35-103-182-_-Product

I wasn't aware if there was any repercussions in using a "k" series chip on a H170. I did some googling and found that most people combine the "k" series with Z170, so I didn't know if there was some sort of extra power gating or anything like that.

Don't stress it too much, you should be set! :)

Thanks for all the quick answers lads! Really appreciate all the quick responses. I was going to go for the Hyper Evo 212 but it just doesn't fit by 1mm in her mid tower and can't slide the side panel on but the T4 seems to be holding pretty steady.

Thanks!
